This blasting material consists of formulated sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda). Blasting soda is an extremely friable material that has micro fragmentation on impact, literally exploding away surface materials without damage to the substrate. Blasting soda is a non-destructive blasting media for many applications in cleaning, paint & varnish stripping, automotive restoration, industrial equipment maintenance, rust removal, graffiti removal, molecular steel passivation against rust, oil removal by saponification and translocation, masonry cleaning and restoration, soot remediation, boat hull cleaning and for food processing facilities and equipment. Blasting soda can be used for cleaning alloys, plastics, composites, wood, cars, boat hulls, masonry, and food processing equipment. It can also be used to remove graffiti and to clean structural steel. Blasting soda is very effective for mold and fire/smoke damage cleanup as it cleans and deodorizes. This blasting media is gentle enough to remove the coating without harming the substrate. Virtually any coating can be removed from any surface. Soda blast media is non-toxic, and contains no free silica; it is non-sparking, non-flammable, non-hazardous, and environmentally safe. Soda blast media can be dissolved in fresh water. Blasting soda buffers the acids, prevents the release of free metal ions and prevents rust. The softness (Mohs hardness scale of 2.5) and friable nature of it's crystal structure produces a unique cutting action with little or no effect on most substrates. For example, thick coatings can be removed from glass without any etching effect. You can see our soda blasting practices on our related website.
